Big Stick Selection

Week 8: I deliver a lecture called "Creative Thinking an Artist's Point of View" for Art and Creativity, a first year unit which introduces contemporary art to bewildered humanities students (of all persuasions - at the moment several different kinds of design students). I try to make it engaging by having a general introduction, then allowing the students to vote for one of three alternate endings. I get them to do an Erwin Wurm One Minute Sculpture with their chairs on their heads. I sometimes give them artistic licences which I make out of cereal boxes. Just before I start the lecture, I head out to some of the tall trees on campus in search of a big stick. I use the stick to point to parts of slides and as a joke if the students wont move when I ask them to. Announcing: "I HAVE A BIG STICK!" usually gets results.

This is the stick I wanted. Sadly, it was too heavy to drag back to the lecture theatre.
